Khortytsa Vodka: From a Zaporizhzhia Distillery to the Label Origin on File

The first Khortytsa bottles were produced in December 2003, exactly one year after construction of the distillery began, Khor's history page says. On 27 August 2026 that plant in Zaporizhzhia Oblast was hit four times and destroyed beyond repair, the Kyiv Independent reported.

How Khortytsa vodka began

Evgeny Chernyak started a distribution enterprise in Ukraine in 1998, and selling alcoholic beverages in CIS countries was one of its main activities, Khor's history page says. The Khortytsa Distillery is located in Zaporizhzhia near Khortytsa Island, which a 2015 Global Spirits USA release calls one of Ukraine's seven wonders. Global Spirits itself was established in 2008 with operational hubs in New York, Moscow, and Kyiv, the same release said. A Global Spirits representative office was opened in the United States in 2010 and officially opened in 2011, the history page adds.

What goes into Khortytsa, by two company websites

Most American consumers refer to the brand simply as "KHOR", a 2017 Global Spirits USA release says. Under that name, khor.com says "Khor Vodka" is distilled from corn for a gluten-free option, with seven rounds of distillation and seven levels of filtration. The vodka is made exclusively from bread grain, selected wheat with the addition of rye and barley, khortytsa.com says. The distillery uses a local filter containing schungite, with filtration further enhanced by birch and alder-tree charcoal and quartz sand, according to the 2015 Global Spirits USA release.

The Khortytsa Ice bottle turns blue when chilled, the 2017 release adds. Its golden cap is stamped with a volumetric logo and sealed with a red protection ring as a safeguard against counterfeit, khor.com says.

Khortytsa in the United States and worldwide

Four Khortytsa items were imported to the United States in 2015, Platinum, Ice, Honey Pepper, and De Luxe, with Khortytsa Platinum the most popular at $13.99 per 750 ml, Global Spirits USA said in its 2015 release. According to IWSR, Khortytsa was the third largest selling global vodka brand at 6.3 million cases, a footnote to that release said. Annual sales reached 176.4 million bottles and the brand is exported to more than 87 countries, khortytsa.com says.

The 2026 strike on the Zaporizhzhia plant

The fire after the August strike lasted three hours, and around 3 million to 4 million bottles were lost, the Kyiv Independent reported. Part of the production was destroyed by fire while the remainder melted and must be disposed of, Ukrainska Pravda reported, citing the Global Spirits press service.
