NEFT Vodka: An Austrian Rye Vodka Sold in a Metal Barrel
NEFT was conceived in 2011, a June 2026 company release says. The vodka first arrived in the US in 2017, The Nibble, a food webzine, reported in 2022.
Who created NEFT and why
Ekaterina Kuzmina set out to create a vodka that paid homage to her family's roots in the Siberian oil workforce, The Nibble says. She settled on the Vorarlberg region in the westernmost part of Austria for its Alpine spring water and distillation methods, by the same account. Santé Magazine, for its part, says the oil-barrel container pays homage to the founders' Siberian grandfather, an oil prospector.
How NEFT vodka is made in Austria
NEFT is crafted at Destillerie Freihof, a 130-year-old family-run distillery in Lustenau, with spring water from the Rätikon Massif in the Rhaetian Alps that filters for 50 years through limestone and slate, The Nibble says. The vodka is distilled three times in a copper pot still and goes through a double-filtration process, Travel Distilled, a spirits blog, wrote in 2021. Nothing goes in beyond the water and ancient grains of rye, with no sugar and no additives, the June 2026 release says, and NEFT's own website describes the grain as 100% non-GMO old-world rye.
Where that rye grows is told two ways. The Nibble says the blend of four ancient rye grains, Amato, Askari, Rasant, and Pollino, chosen for their soft and mild flavor, is grown in Lower Saxony. Santé Magazine and Travel Distilled instead describe four local rye types used in Austria.
What the NEFT barrel does
The barrels are insulated and, according to the company, stay cold for up to 6 hours and can be refilled, The Nibble says. They come in black and white plus a multicolor Pride design and a seasonal holiday barrel.
Where NEFT is sold
NEFT is available in 17 countries, including Austria, the United Kingdom, Japan, Australia, Monaco, Spain, the UAE, Croatia, and Serbia, the June 2026 release said. It also named partnerships with the Visa Cash App Racing Bulls Formula One Team and Silverstone. In the UK, the 70cl white barrel at 40.0% ABV sells for £39.99 through an Amazon Brand Store launched in August 2025, a company release said. The brand donates 50 cents from every barrel sold to one of six charities, The Nibble says. The company is headquartered in El Segundo, California, and opened an office in Austin's Central Business District for R&D, sales, and experiential teams, with Jeff Mahony quoted as CEO, the June 2026 release said.
