1220 Spirits: The Vodka a St. Louis Brewery Added to Its Gin Plans
4 Hands Brewing Co. founder Kevin Lemp announced plans in January 2016 to add a distillery with a gin-focused line from the start, Feast Magazine reported. The distillery that followed, 1220 Spirits, began in 2018 as a complement to the brewery and grew to more than a dozen products in under five years, its website says.
The gin plans that came before the vodka
The 2016 plan called for a seasonal gin series, citrus-forward for spring and summer and more botanical and herbaceous for winter, plus a barrel-aged gin, with a consultant guiding the team, Feast Magazine reported. The first spirit was due in the second quarter of 2016, and rye whiskey was a long-term plan, the article said. By February 2022 the distillery was launching a gin line called Origin Expressions, developed with hospitality partners, beginning with a collaboration between The Lucky Accomplice's beverage director and head distiller Andy Burgio, Saint Louis Magazine reported.
Encrypted Vodka and its flavors
Encrypted Vodka is made from a Missouri corn mash that is distilled six times and bottled at 40% alcohol by volume, the 1220 Spirits website says. In April 2022 the distillery announced two Encrypted vodka flavors, Lemonade Lavender and Balaton Cherry & Persian Lime, inspired by its two most popular canned cocktails for summer, Sophisticated Saint Louis reported. They came in 750 mL bottles, sold at 4 Hands Brewing Co. from April 7, the report said.
Canned cocktails built on Encrypted Vodka
The distillery launched its ready-to-drink line in 2019 and saw success with its Lemonade and Lavender and Cherry Limeade cans, Sophisticated Saint Louis reported. By November 2025 the line included Cherry Lime, Moscow Mule, and Bramble cans made with Encrypted vodka, alongside Watermelon Smash, Pineapple Punch, and Pumpkin Spice Cold Brew, Saint Louis Magazine reported.
