Deep Eddy Vodka: A Swimming Hole Name and a Heaven Hill Purchase

Deep Eddy Vodka was started in Austin, Texas in 2010 by Clayton Christopher, creator of Sweet Leaf Tea, and Chad Auler, creator of Savvy Vodka, Heaven Hill says. In August 2017 all distilling moved from the original Dripping Springs site to the distillery in Buda, Texas, Heaven Hill confirmed to The Spirits Business.

How Deep Eddy Vodka started

Christopher and Auler prepared to launch Deep Eddy Sweet Tea Vodka at the 2010 South by Southwest festival, and the straight vodka was launched at SXSW 2011, Community Impact reported. The first vodka was named after the company's favorite swimming hole, Deep Eddy's website says. Deep Eddy Ruby Red Vodka followed in 2013, and the brand had grown to over 500,000 cases by 2015, according to Heaven Hill.

Who owns Deep Eddy Vodka

Heaven Hill said in a release dated 1 September 2015 that it had completed its acquisition of Deep Eddy Vodka and its distillery from Eliza Spring, LLC, for an undisclosed amount. Deep Eddy is a nearly 1.8 million nine-litre case brand, The Spirits Business reported in April 2026.

Where Deep Eddy Vodka is made

Deep Eddy would continue to be produced in the Austin area, Heaven Hill said in its release announcing the acquisition. The Buda distillery has the capacity to produce over 5 million cases a year, Heaven Hill says. The company has also said it planned to move bottling of the Deep Eddy 100ml package from its Bardstown, Kentucky facility to Buda.

Its vodka is distilled from corn by Deep Eddy Distilling Co., Austin, TX, according to the brand's website. Deep Eddy said in 2026 it would hand its Dripping Springs tasting room to another vodka distillery through a sublease and stop operating it as of 1 August 2026, while its Buda distillery operations are not changing.

In the BUY.VODKA TTB snapshot, Deep Eddy approvals listing Kentucky as the label origin on file were filed by Heaven Hill Distilleries of Bardstown and are dated 28 September 2020 to 19 December 2023, while the other approvals list Texas. Each approval appears in the TTB label records for Deep Eddy.
