Quartz Mountain Distillers: A Father-and-Son Distillery in Vancouver, Washington

Randy and Darin Kyle had spent a year and a half working to launch Quartz Mountain Distillers in North Vancouver when KATU visited in April 2020. By then the Kyles had churned out 48 gallons of hand sanitizer, with more in the works, the station reported.

"The faster we can make this go away, the faster we can get back to what we're all supposed to do," Randy Kyle told the station. The company now calls itself Vancouver, Washington's first craft distillery and says it has brought spirits to market since 2020, on its website.

Quartz Mountain Distillers vodka: small batch and unfiltered

Its Small Batch Vodka is distilled from a corn-based mash bill, twice filtered, and listed at $22, the product page says. The Unfiltered Vodka is distilled from a corn-based mash bill as well, by the same site's account.

The two product pages and the awards page agree on one medal and differ on another. The Unfiltered Vodka's product page and the awards page both show a silver medal at the 2022 International Spirits Competition of the American Distilling Institute. For the Small Batch Vodka at the 2023 edition of that competition, the product page shows silver, while the awards page lists bronze. The online shop menu also lists Flavored Vodkas, Flavored Shine, Gin, Bourbon, and Whiskey categories.

The bourbon that was mashed in spring 2020

Its first Bottled-in-Bond bourbon, mashed, distilled, and barreled in spring 2020 and aged over five years, was announced in a July 2025 press release published by Breaking Bourbon. The release called it the first Bottled-in-Bond bourbon released within Southwest Washington State and quoted Randy Kyle as Vice President. Its Imperial Stout Whiskey is listed as Best of Category with a gold medal at the 2024 International Spirits Competition of the American Distilling Institute on the awards page, which under media recognition lists Best Whiskeys of 2024 by Forbes.

Visiting the distillery in Vancouver

The distillery is open for tours and tasting sessions Tuesday through Saturday from 12:00 to 6:00, with Monday by appointment, at 4601 NE 78th Street, Suite 220, Vancouver, Washington, its website says. See the TTB label records for Quartz Mountain Distillers on this page.
