V-One: The History of a Hadley Vodka Company

V-One Vodka is made from 100 per cent spelt grain and distilled five times, Emerging Europe said in 2019. Production moved to Poland in 2005, where private distilleries made it under strict instructions from founder Paul Kozub, the same feature reported.

Why V-One vodka is made from spelt

Kozub chose the grain after trips to Poland, and the station called V-One the world's only vodka made from the ancient grain, WWLP reported in 2020. "V-One will always be headquartered here, but I wanted to make Polish vodka so that's why I went to Poland," Kozub told the station. The vodka was first certified gluten-free in 2007, V-One's website says.

The move to a distillery in Kamień

V-One's new distillery is in a 130-year-old distillery in Kamień, about two hours southeast of Warsaw, and would give Kozub complete oversight of the vodka-making process, Emerging Europe reported in March 2019. V-One had produced 10,000 cases in 2018, and the new plant gave it a capacity of four million cases, the article said, citing the Daily Hampshire Gazette. It added that 24 employees would work in Poland alongside six full-time and six part-time staff in Hadley. The Gazette reported in February 2022 that the Polish distillery could make 15,000 liters of vodka a day.

Hadley headquarters and the spelt fields

V-One's world headquarters is a former Catholic church building on Route 9 in Hadley town center, the Gazette reported. In 2022 Kozub told the Hadley Planning Board he was seeking land off Cemetery Road for a 3,000-square-foot testing and product development building, the same report said. Two acres of spelt grown on Bay Road fields are used in making the vodka, it added.

V-One flavors and medals

The lineup now includes V-One Triple Berry, Grapefruit, Lime, Cucumber, Peppermint, and Double Espresso, the brand's website says. The site adds that the brand received two double-gold medals at the Warsaw Spirit Competition. See the TTB label records for V-One on this page.
