McCormick Vodka: An American Grain Vodka From an 1856 Missouri Distillery
The Weston, Missouri distillery that bottles McCormick Vodka went back to making bourbon in 2016 and took the name Holladay Distillery, operated by McCormick Distilling Company, the Holladay history page says. The Whiskey Wash dates the restart to a $10-million renovation in 2015 that brought bourbon distilling back on-site for the first time in three decades.
The limestone spring where the distillery began
Brothers Ben Holladay and Major David Holladay visited the site of a limestone spring at Weston, then a meat-packing house, and started the distillery there in 1856, according to Holladay Distillery's history page. Ben Holladay was 37 when he opened it to make bourbon, The Platte County Landmark reported. The Whiskey Wash describes it as the oldest distillery in Missouri and the oldest west of the Mississippi still operating on its original site.
How the distillery became McCormick Distilling Company
The distillery changed names a number of times over the decades before becoming known as McCormick Distilling Company in 1942, by the history page's account. Jordan Gernano, Holladay's tourism marketing manager, told The Platte County Landmark the facility "transformed from a production facility making the classic McCormick Family brands to really specializing in premium brands." The 160-acre distillery attracts about 15,000 visitors a year and can fill 14 barrels a day, the newspaper reported in 2019.
What McCormick Vodka is
McCormick Vodka is quadruple-distilled and made from American grain, at 40% alcohol by volume (80 proof), McCormick Distilling's brands page says. The same page calls it "a true American original."
