Lockwood Distilling Co.: A Richardson Distillery's History

Evan and Sally Batt opened Lockwood Distilling Co.'s Richardson location in October 2019 with a line of spirits that included a hibiscus vodka, CultureMap Dallas reported. The distillery opened only a few months before the pandemic and was among the companies that pivoted quickly to making hand sanitizer, the outlet reported in 2021.

How Lockwood Distilling Co. began

The distillery takes its name from Lockwood Drive, the Richardson street that feeds into the Richardson Heights neighborhood, Evan Batt told the Dallas Observer before opening. Batt had worked for Western Son in Pilot Point, PaperCity Magazine reported.

The venue at 506 Lockwood Dr. pairs a chef-devised menu with small-batch spirits made in a 100-gallon copper still, according to CultureMap Dallas. Batt told the Observer the distillery would start with rum, then move to gin and vodka to fill out the cocktail menu, and that he had ordered 28 barrels for aged spirits.

How Lockwood Distilling Co. got through the pandemic

With help from neighbors, the Batts set up a socially distanced patio in the parking lot and completed a 4,000-square-foot production and storage warehouse, CultureMap Dallas reported in 2021. The business kept and added staff during the pandemic as it pivoted to beverage production, served through the restaurant's large exterior window, and brought live music back before most other venues, Batt later told Community Impact.

The hibiscus vodka and other Lockwood Distilling Co. spirits

The distillery won a 2021 Microliquor Award with a Triple Gold for its Hibiscus Vodka and a Single Gold for its bourbon, CultureMap Dallas reported. The hibiscus vodka is now a summer seasonal, bourbon cream is among the specialties, and the business opened a spot inside Southern Methodist University's football stadium in fall 2026, Batt told Community Impact.

Expansion across North Texas

A second location, a bottle shop at 1411 West Magnolia Avenue in Fort Worth's Near Southside, had opened softly by November 2021, CultureMap Dallas reported. A McKinney outpost followed in 2024, the Fort Worth location closed in fall 2025, and a third opened at 532 Main St. in Garland over Valentine's weekend in 2026 as a showcase that does not distill, CultureMap reported.
